Meet the new WingtraGROUND powered by Emlid—an all-in-one kit for aerial surveys

WingtraGROUND powered by Emlid

Emlid adds high precision to WingtraGROUND, a new kit for survey-grade aerial data capture with the WingtraONE Gen II—VTOL drone widely regarded as the industry benchmark.

The kit features Emlid-powered GNSS receivers with automatic connectivity to the Wingtra ecosystem and step-by-step guidance via the Wingtra tablet. A single guided workflow makes it easy for drone surveyors to set up base stations and checkpoints faster and with a lower risk of errors.

What is WingtraGROUND?

WingtraGROUND is a portable kit for on-site PPK surveys that includes all the GNSS equipment and accessories you need for survey-grade aerial data capture:

  • 2 Wingtra GNSS receivers powered by Emlid;
  • 2 small tripods;
  • 6 checkpoints (GCPs);
  • a hammer and nails for securing GCPs;
  • a portable carrying case.

Apart from bringing all the hardware components into one handy set, WingtraGROUND helps manage the surveying workflow via the Wingtra tablet interface. Automatic connectivity between the tablet and the receivers and real-time sync with WingtraCloud ensure precise data collection at all times.

Unlocking the full potential of drone data

Ground control complexity has long been a major barrier to harnessing the power of drone data, even with advanced technology like Wingtra’s.

“Until now, even with the best drone, you needed to know how to operate base stations, rovers, checkpoints, and survey nails—all from different manufacturers,” said André Becker, Senior Product Manager at Wingtra. “These disconnected components created fragmented workflows, increasing the risk of faulty setups, inaccurate data, and wasted time. This part of the process was begging for simplicity and seamless integration, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering with WingtraGROUND.”

WingtraGROUND removes traditional ground control complexity by combining all necessary tools—GNSS receivers, checkpoints, and tools—into one portable set and unifying previously disjointed workflows. Thanks to step-by-step guidance via Wingtra tablet, surveyors can proactively troubleshoot base setup errors before their drone takes off, ensuring a smoother, more reliable survey process.

High precision powered by Emlid

Wingtra receivers, powered by the advanced features of the Emlid Reach RS3, deliver accuracy within two centimeters (0.78 inches), meeting the highest standards for aerial data validation. Automatic connectivity to the Wingtra ecosystem enables the system to detect base station locations and ensure proper setup for accurate readings.

“Through our partnership with Emlid and deep technical integration, we are setting a new industry standard,” said André Becker, Senior Product Manager of Wingtra. “We are democratizing aerial surveying by making the technology easy and accessible to everyone.”

“We are proud to support Wingtra in addressing a long-standing industry challenge, with a solution that is both straightforward and precise,” said Igor Vereninov, CEO of Emlid. “This kit is more than just a set of tools—it’s a complete workflow that makes high-precision aerial surveys with Wingtra more accessible than ever.”

By integrating Emlid’s GNSS technology into WingtraGROUND, Wingtra and Emlid aim to eliminate barriers to an accurate base station and checkpoint setup, unlocking the full potential of aerial surveying for professionals with different levels of expertise.

Who is WingtraGROUND best for?

Thanks to guided workflows, WingtraGROUND significantly lowers the entry barrier to precise drone surveying with Wingtra drones. There is virtually no room for mistakes, as every step is verified and troubleshooted by the system. This makes the solution accessible to engineering and construction staff, as well as drone operators who are new to GNSS and checkpoints.

Experienced surveyors benefit from an integrated workflow that eliminates the need to source, coordinate, and transport multiple components separately. Additionally, there is no frustration or time lost due to connectivity issues—WingtraGROUND works seamlessly with WingtraONE and WingtraCLOUD. This allows surveyors to set up their surveys in half the time compared to traditional equipment.

The set also offers excellent value for money, serving as a cost-effective expansion to an existing fleet, an ideal first survey kit for beginners, or the perfect equipment for those launching a surveying business.

How to simplify your fieldwork with WingtraGROUND?

With WingtraGROUND, your on-site surveys become a one-person job that is simplified at every step. To speed up your fieldwork, follow the simple steps:

1. Prepare your mission
Set up a new site in WingtraCLOUD. Check the recommended coordinate system and enter your base location. Create a new flight and adjust the flight directions and take-off position.

2. Set up a base
Open your site on the Wingtra tablet, click Start flight, and follow the guidance. Click Base setup and select your base location. Screw your base receiver on top of the tripod and turn on the receiver. Tap Next and Connect on the tablet. Just place the base on the known point and start logging in the app.

3. Measure checkpoints
Turn on your rover receiver. Open your tablet, click Checkpoints, then Next and Connect. To add your checkpoint, click Add. Place a target flat on the ground using nails and a hammer, then place the rover with the tripod on a checkpoint. Simply tap on Measure on the tablet. You are ready to proceed with the next checkpoint.

4. Sync data
After the flight, just click Stop logging on the tablet. Your base and checkpoints data will sync automatically with your flight in WingtraCLOUD. No more need for manual data transfer.

5. Process your data
Back in the office, remove an SD card from your payload and copy the files to your PC. In WingtraCLOUD, select the flight to process. Drag&drop the flight folder and click Process. Get an email with the processed data and open a map. Select your desired export area and simply download your deliverables.
