Mobile or robotic mapping and surveying solutions are evolving to enable rapid data collection over large areas. In addition to the moving vehicle, these solutions require highly accurate positioning data. That’s where the Reach GNSS receivers come into play.
Emlid’s Reach receivers are designed to integrate seamlessly with different types of machinery, delivering centimeter-accurate positioning and reducing project costs. Read how Reach enables mobile mapping and robotic surveying—and discover how it can elevate your operations today.
Mobile scanning with Reach and Hovermap
Challenge
Scanning large areas with a traditional laser scanner can be slow and quite costly. It may also lack the precision required for today’s infrastructure mapping needs, especially in areas with poor GNSS/GPS signals.
Solution
The Emesent team has integrated Reach receivers into its Hovermap scanning solution to provide survey-grade accuracy and fast scanning workflows. The RTK-enabled Hovermap can be used for scanning with a drone or other vehicle, or even for backpack scanning. The Hovermap mount with Reach receiver attaches to any vehicle using magnetic or vacuum feet. This integration automates the creation of accurate point clouds, providing a simplified and fast data collection workflow.
To test the accuracy of the Vehicle RTK solution enabled with Hovermap and Emlid Reach RS3, Emesent collected data along a 2 km stretch of road in Wacol, Brisbane. The Vehicle RTK was mounted on the back of a van to ensure clear visibility of the road surface. A total of six passes in each direction were conducted at approximately 50 km/h, with data collection lasting 50 minutes. As a result, 68% of collected points were within 14mm horizontal and 9mm vertical distance of the control points.
Mobile mapping with Mosaic-51 and Reach RS2+
Challenge
Urban planning and asset management demand high-precision data to accurately locate assets across a large area and create reliable geographic information system (GIS) maps. Traditional methods can be costly and time-consuming, especially in dense urban areas.
Solution
By integrating Emlid Reach RS2+ into Mosaic-51 360° camera system, Mosaic has created a high-precision mobile mapping solution for capturing urban landscapes and terrain features. Mosaic-51’s mobile mapping setup combines panoramic high-resolution imagery with RTK positioning from Reach RS2+. This solution enhances data precision, reduces reliance on ground control points (GCPs), and lowers the cost of post-processing corrections.
This integration is especially beneficial for projects involving GIS asset mapping, urban planning, and AI-based data processing, where accurate location data is necessary for advanced analysis and automated mapping tasks.
Autonomous stakeout with Reach-powered CivDot robots
Challenge
On large construction sites, creating precise layouts can be labor-intensive, with errors leading to costly delays and rework.
Solution
The Civ Robotics team designed the CivDot ground robots to automate the stakeout process. With Reach onboard, these robots perform staking and grading with centimeter-level accuracy in complex construction workflows, including heavy civil projects. Powered by Reach GNSS receivers, the CivDot robots accurately complete layout operations while minimizing errors and optimizing time and labor.
Integrate Reach with your gear for accurate positioning
Reach GNSS receivers are easy to integrate with various vehicles, making them a versatile solution for industries like urban mapping, construction, and infrastructure projects. They deliver the accuracy, reliability, and cost-efficiency professionals rely on for precise and efficient work.
